Moved from Hollywood, CA to VT about 2 years ago and started a flock a bit over a year ago. Originally I had 6 day old Golden Comets hens and 6 Rhode Island Red (straight run, that turned out to be all roosters) that I had to eliminate 5 roos. I then adopted 7 rescue hens, 6 white leghorns and one buff orphington. I didn't socialize with the chickens much so they were not a friendly flock. So I decided to start a new flock with 6 new day olds... 2 each of Buff Orphingtons, White Leghorns and Australorps who are now about 13 weeks old. They have been socialized with humans and other animals so are very friendly to me. They are used to me petting them and holding them unlike my old flock. I also got 3 bantam Seabrights and I gave away all my year olds except one broody Golden Comet who was sitting on 21 eggs.

Then I checked on her eggs and one was missing. Then yesterday, I saw her eating one egg, so I'm alarmed and concerned that she's acquired a very bad habit. What should I do or should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! It's great to hear you now have some friendly chickens. It sure does make a difference having and raising them from small chicks.

Good luck for the future and enjoy your time here on BYC :frow

We are glad you joined our flock.

:welcome Egg eating can be a very hard habit to break and it is quickly picked up by other birds who observe it. You may want to put "Egg eaters," in the search box to see what can be done about them.
