I had chickens a few years back, but it was more of the hubby's hobby. He has had chickens many times throughout his life. While I grew up in a very city like setting in NJ, I am very happy here on a 5 acre farm in Ft Myers FL.

Currently, I have about 80 chickens. I am not sure of all the breeds, but some are Reds, ofcourse I don't know if they are Rhode Island of New Hampshire...the feed store didn't specify that. They others they had onlu as "sex linked". It would be great to know exactly what that means. I have some bantams, which I love dearly. They are maybe 2 months old, and beautiful. I will post pics when I get more adapt to this site. A few barred rocks, and one Ameraucana, only one that I know of. A neighbor told me that I have more, but I only know for sure that one is.

I started out with about 20 that another neighbor gave me, and I bought more as I went along. I find them to be very calming, whenever I get stressed out or angry, I just toddle on out to my chickens and within no time, I am fine.

I posted a question in the disease section, as I had a hen show up out of nowhere about a month ago. I asked all my neighbors, and it didn't belong to anyone. She came with some sort of illness. She has blisters under her eyes, one has since popped and they seem to go down and then come back often. Can anyone help out with what this might be, cures, contagious? Any help would be much appreciated.

Dh and I moved from Ft. Myers 5 yrs ago. They have the best drive-in movie place there! I wonder if it's still there??
I don't know about the blisters but as far as breeds of chickens you really can't beat feathersite.com. It's awesome

I have three sons, 15 12 and 10

Two cats, and 1 neighborhhod cat who adopted me, surprisingly, they don't bother the chickens, but my one does like to follow them around and watch them, it's really cute to watch

I used to have 5 cows and a few pigs, I want pigs again, but not the cows...they were a pain, always getting out, even when the fence was all fixed, Big Momma (my heffer) was the most stubborn, blankity blankity blank blank.

Sorry to say, the drive in is gone. I took my kids there one time before they tore it down. We saw Shrek and Garfield was playing on the other side, shortly after that, it was gone.
