My son and I are looking into getting back into chickens. We have several acres with some horses, cows, goats, dogs, and cats. When he was much smaller we had several layers (buff orpingtons, rhode island reds, and some others mixed in), we ended up giving them all to my dad since we were having problems with neighbor's dogs. Now that my son is older (9 in January) he is really wanting his own chickens to raise for the eggs (one of the few proteins he will eat
). My mom is giving him a small incubator for Christmas so I was thinking that it would be really awesome for him to hatch out his own chicks and raise them from an egg! After researching several different breeds I think that we'd like to try the Black Copper Marans. I know you can order eggs online, but that the shipping tends to damage them. Does anyone know of any good breeders near me? I would prefer to drive to get them to get a better chance of hatching them since the incubator he's getting is only big enough for 3 at a time. Any help would be sooooo appreciated! I'm am totally loving this website and I can't wait to get started on our coop!
