I’m new to the backyard bird game. No chickens yet, but a lively bunch of ducklings and a pair of goslings to start!

Our ducks are (hopefully) all female, Silver Appleyard, Welsh Harlequin, and White Duclair. Our two geese are Toulouse males. We are hoping the geese will act as protectors for the new waddle!

They are all about 4 days old now and living happily in a large oval livestock feeder as a brooder until they’re ready to go outside.

Their duck house with fully-enclosed run area will be built shortly, and a big area outside the run will be fenced for daytime activities. Lots of work, but excited to see them grow!

Next year we’ll get the chicken coop all fixed up and start a flock, but for this year we hope the ducks will keep us entertained and fed (eggs only!)

Welcome! Glad you decided to join us! I've never had duck eggs, but would be very interested to try them!
Very much like chicken eggs, but more yolk and taste…. Eggier? Haha they’re good and can be used mostly in the same way as chicken eggs, though they’re usually larger.

Welcome to BYC! Sounds like you are all set for some fun! I'm glad you have two goslings in the mix, rather than just one. Rather than necessarily being super protective of your ducks though, they may at least be good for sounding the alarm if there's something wrong. Enjoy your fluff babies! They are only this little once. :)
