(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
First time chicken owners! A friend raised them from chicks, and they came to our coop at about 8 weeks old. At 20 weeks now!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Four ladies
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks and 2 Wyandottes. All black and white, hence the 'Gothic Girls'. Their names are Morticia, Wednesday, Elvira, and Madge (Magenta - from Rocky Horror).
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love seeing them in the morning. I love sitting with them at the end of the day. Their little voices. Giving them treats. Adding good stuff to the compost. And someday - good eggs!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Camping, hiking, reading, birdwatching, dog-walking, gardening
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I have two dogs and a cat; Murphy, Bruce, and Willis. I'm a hairstylist, with side gigs doing pet-sitting and transcription work. My husband is a large-scale public artist with a history in architecture (so he built the girls the Taj-Ma-Coop).
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Just found this after a google search about wattle and comb colors! Seemed like a good community to be a part of, as we are mostly learning as we go. We do have a few other friends in the backyard chicken game, too.
Attaching pic's of the coop and the girls when they were a bit younger. I think I uploaded these to a response, too. But just incase - here they are!
