We're new to chicken ownership and having lots of fun with it. This is a great site full of lots of valuable information. My daughter joined a couple of days ago (hi chicken_chick33!!!!) and I'm following in her chicksteps.
We have Barred Rocks and accidentally ended up with a Nankin Rooster and two Nankin hens. I think he is beautiful and such a nice little roo. I look forward to his soft crowing in the mornings.
His hens have been laying and we got an incubator and have been putting the eggs in there. But after reading up on this forum, it looks like we're doing it all wrong. Every time we find an egg we add it to the growing group in the bator. Are we supposed to leave them in the nest and hope the hens will go broody? Or are we supposed to put them in the frig and wait until we have a batch for the bator? Help!!
We put our dogs out of the yard at times during the day and let the chickies out to roam. They have so much fun during these escapades. Is there a way for doggies and chickies to coexist? I'm not going to try it any time soon. So for now, when we want to let 'em out, we put the dogs inside the house or outside of the fenced yard.
