Hello, I have been a member since mid July, thought i should do my introduction now :) I'm the proud owner of 8 sexlinks (4 black 4 red) 3-4 weeks old.
My other critters include 2 English mastiffs, 5 rabbits, and some fish

Absolutely! I am awestruck by the amount of information that I have been able to find here. I love reading threads and seeing everyone's different methods and views. I have found blurting out tips and tricks to my husband at the randomist of times ;) love it!
 
Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I've had both sex link varieties and they are laying machines. You should get loads of large, brown eggs from those eight girls. :o) Black Sex Links are my very favorite hens as they are so friendly. They have also been my very best layers over the years, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year, and they've even been a little better layers than my Red Sex Links in really cold winter weather (although really cold weather won't be an issue in Fontana, CA). Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your sex links.

I love them all but I have found that my blacks are more skittish than my reds, they will all come up to me and start peeping but if I put my hand in to pick them up then they are the first to back off, maybe they will warm up to me when they get a little older. One of the blacks is named Mayday because if she is being held all she does is peep :) and they are all so different in size I have 1 red that is like the runt of the litter (first timer with chickens so I don't even know if they have runts) she is tiny in comparison to the others. she is apprehensive about everything and always the last out of the coop in the morning, and when roosting if she sees me she will peep until I help her down, so I have to walk away so she can find the courage to do it herself :/
Besides Folgers in my cup they are the best part of waking up!
