Hello everyone! I am a long-time lurker of your fantastic forum, and I have decided to take the plunge and join up.
My girlfriend and I both kept chickens as children, and because we now have our own place with a decent-sized garden we have decided to take up the hobby again. I like tinkering with things (I am a soon-to-be surgeon), so we decided to build an incubator and hatch out our own chicks. The incubator is cobbled together out of an old cool box, a chopping board, some salvaged computer fans and a couple of 20W 12v halogen lights that I had kicking around. The temperature is controlled by a simple 12v thermostat that I created:
I can provide instructions on how this was built if anyone is interested.
We put our dozen lavender Orpington bantam eggs in yesterday and we have been turning them religiously 3x a day. The temperature has been stable at 99.7f, and the humidity has fluctuated between 45-55%. Here will be the end result (if all goes well):
This is a picture that the breeder sent me of his breeding stock.
I'm sure I will be spamming the incubation and hatching forum soon enough!
Jack
