To quote my very understanding husband;
6 chicks living in the spare bedroom for 6 weeks, moving a playscape from a neighbor down the street, 3 weekends (and various after-works) converting it into a coop, 2 used doublehung windows- 50.00, lumber from Lowes- 150.00, 6 used dog kennel panels-225.00. Making 7 girls happy- Priceless! I questioned 7- he said the 6 girls, Laverne, Georgette, Stretch, RubyRed, Penny, Lula and ME.
Hi, I'm Laura from Uncasville CT. In case you have no idea where it is, I'm stuck between the 2 largest casinos on the east coast. (The only thing cool about that is that I can see the weekly fireworks from Mohegan Sun from my back yard!) This is my first foray into chicken keeping and my husband & I are having a ball. They are nosey- want to watch anything that goes on in the backyard, fun- it's a hoot to watch them play tag or pig pile, and interesting to watch them develop from little fluff balls to the teradactyls the are now. The girls are 11 weeks old now and they are starting to go thru puberty- no more cheep-cheep- finally starting to hear a cluck or 2 from them. 3 are Wydonettes and 3 are Arucanas. At first, while young, the Arucanas were more outgoing, but now the Wydonettes have turned out to be more outgoing and bossy. But we love them all! I have my 4yr old nephew convinced that some are magic chickens and will lay easter eggs- he's already told us he is gonna stay overnite so he can find the magic eggs. I'm trying to convine him it will take a few months before the eggs come, but he asks every week and has tried to bribe the girls (with watermelon pieces) to give him magic eggs. Bye- until the next time! Laura
