Hi fellow chicken tenders. My name is Katey I am a 40 yr old mom of 28. 2 girls, 24 chickens, 1 dog, 1 cat. I live in the UP between Escanaba and Iron Mountain and have had chickens for 4 years now. I grew up on a beef cattle farm but chickens are a little different, it has been a fun adventure.

I have a bunch of different barnyard mixes. Olive eggers, Americana, buff Orpingtons, leg horns, Australorps, wellsummers, wynadottes, blue Plymouth, brahmas… and 5 Frankensteins my girls hatched that are from my Americana rooster (rip to him) the wynadotte/Americana cross is a very interesting looking little guy. If anybody wants a rooster, we don’t really like boys 🤣 Ignore that if it’s not allowed here I’m new lol

We love camping, hunting, kayaking, crafting, woodworking. I just started collecting glass chickens called hen on a nest. Chickens have become my personality lol. But basically your typical yooper girl.

I am married with 2 girls one in college and one in elementary school. I am a lab tech specializing in hematology and microbiology.

I found yall on google and it looked like a good community ❤️

Greetings & Salutations. Welcome Katey.

Most of us have had to deal with extra cockerels/roosters.

This is a wonderful site on which to Learn and enjoy. We are pleased to have you in the community.

Yep, just part of hatching lol. I have a persistently broody hen so I don’t want to have a rooster because she’ll be sneaking off hatching babies all time. Her baby is the rooster like 10 weeks old and she’s broody again 🫠 and that was her 3rd hatch and she’s 3 lol we had a mean rooster and my daughter is a little scared of them now too. But this guy is pretty cool/weird looking he just started crowing if you can call his squeaking that lol I might keep him.

Oh, their early crowing is comical. They seem to be trying so hard to sound like the older ones.
