Planning now for chicks in the spring. Any tips for good egg layers in the cold winter months? Also have 5 & 6 year old kids and would prefer friendly chickens.

I have a Rhode Island Red that is super freindly!! and she is also a great layer!! heres some pics of her

Thanks drumstick diva! I'll check those out, I didn't have that kind one our list. We have Orpington, RIR and of course my daughter wants a white silkie which aren't the best layers but she wants a feathered fluffy one!
