Hello everyone. The title says half of it. I'm currently in an apartment, but I will be looking for house in the salt lake (suburb) area in a couple of months, and was thinking about getting chickens after moving. I don't have any right now, and I've never had experience with them. My wife had a pet chicken for several years, partly where this interest comes from. This forum seemed like a good place to learn about things before investing time and money in a few chickens.

I know one of the first things I need to find is the laws on where chickens can be kept. I've been looking online for homes with a decent sized yard but all I've found so far are subdivisions where homes are crammed in like sardines. I'm originally from Indiana, and right now I wish I had the two acres here that I had there. I know there is probably a law as to how close to adjacent property/buildings they can be kept, I just need to find it. Don't want the choice to be made for me on keeping chickens when I buy a home.

I am new to chicks too. welcome and hello... also from Utah

I am in West Valley. I have 1.5 acres. West Valley has a point system for ag zoned land. I do not know about SLC, but for my property I can have 100 chickens, if thats all i have. Its based on 200 points per acre, so 100 points for me. chickens and other fowl are 1 point, pigs small livstock etc are like 20, horses cows etc like 50. I like where I am at, got a great deal on the house but am not super fond of WV. good look finding a place. and good luck with the chicks.
