We are just getting ready to start raising chickens and am so excited to be able to get hands on advice from all of you. We have a family of 6 how many chickens should we start with? Best advice for newbies? Our chickens will be for laying only once they have names they are pets and can not be eaten. LOL

If you want eggs for every one every day, I'd suggest getting 8-10 hens. Some breeds lay very well, but I can't tell you which off the top of my head now... But have a look in the Breeds section and see what the other members say. Also look at the Learning Centre for a crash course in chicken keeping. Enjoy the site!
