Hey all! My family and I are thinking about getting chickens in our backyard. We live in North Las Vegas in a very suburban locale. I'm sure we're not zoned for chickens, but we might try it out anyway. Looking forward to learning all we can before we get any birds. Our biggest questions right now relate to how the chickens will handle the extreme temps here: 115 deg in summer and just below freezing in winter.

Hello from Oregon & welcome to BYC. You can call your local city official/animal control & find out what your allowed to have & not have in your area. It would be sad to spend all that time & money just to find out you cant have them. Funny how fast you get attached . Best of luck to you & your future flock. There is lots of great info in the learning tabs above about high temps & chickens.

Hello, I started with a few hens and cant imagine not having them. Good luck with your set up, theyre totally worth it. Much more than marvellous eggs ..personality plus . I'm new here too but the galleries are really inspiring. :)
