Hi! I am finally getting around to introducing myself even though I've been reading posts here for over a year. I am fairly new to chickens, as we got our first flock a little over a year ago...a few chickens later and we currently have (3) 7 week old Barnyard-mix chicks, 2 laying olive-eggers and 1 very friendly laying Barnyard mix. We live on a small plot of land, right outside the city, in a neighborhood where the houses are fairly close together...we just happen to have a double-lot and a love for kids and animals! My husband and son built our chicken coop from all recycled material and pallets, however, we have a fenced-in yard and generally our chooks roam about all day. We also have a Scottish Terrier who learned not to mess with the chicks after about a two-week introduction...now, sometimes the hens even peck at him if he is in their way. So funny! We lost our favorite hen last summer. She was a super-blue egg layer and she was the sweetest...our children cried. It's safe to say we love all things chicken, even though we have a small little flock.
