Hi everyone! I'm Roz, and I share a smallholding in Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK, with a few friends.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We've been keeping poultry about four years.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Forty seven chickens, and also forty nine ducks and thirteen quail.

(3) What breeds do you have?

They are mostly rescued ex-commercial hybrids, but we have a Buff Orpinton cockerel, three Splashes, three Sussexes and some Black Rocks. There are also a few people have asked us to rehome that we don't know what they are, but they're all gorgeous.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

How freakin' funny they are, and what individuals. You can really get to know their little personalities; I love it.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Pottery is the main one.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

There are six of us in my farm-family. We have fifty acres of scrubby wetland, which is mostly managed for nature. Six horses, four dogs, one semi-feral child. When I'm not on the farm, I'm an editor of genre fiction.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I've been turning to this forum for tips on bird care almost since we got our first pair of ducks. In many cases when we see a problem, this is the ONLY place where people are discussing it! It's been invaluable and now that we have some experience, I feel like I might be able to help others in turn.
