We Think we have identified the instigator, and we have put her into solitary confinement. I put the others back into the big crate and all seems to be going well. We have two red lights, low watt, and it does seem to help. I am keeping an eye on the heat, From what I have read, I want to keep it cool. We put in shavings, lettuce, and perches. Everyone seems to be social except the nipper. Maybe the instigator just has an over active grooming gene.
We had a golden retriever who would lick holes into himself...and then start licking the floor... across the floor, down the hall... His tongue must have been raw. The vet said the lick obsession compulsion was genetic. If 'nippers' doesn't stop it, she'll be the lone chick. Maybe she will live outside the coop and take her chances. I do not want this trait to be passed on.
