Hey everyone, I'm CJ. I am brand new to chickens, I just got my first shipment yesterday from Murray McMurray of 9 Ginger Broilers, 6 Black Star laying chicks and 1 mystery bird which I believe is a Barred Rock. I am really excited for this new adventure, the most exciting part for me is being a little more self sufficient with eggs and meat. I don't know what I am doing but hopefully that will come with time. I specifically was looking for lots of meat chickens and a few laying hens that will be fine in our cold Mid-Michigan climate here. Other hobbies I have are gardening, reading and playing with my children. My son is 7 and my daughter is 9 years old. I also have a huge Great Pyrenees dog who is almost 2 years old. This is his first time around chickens too, when they are a little bigger I will introduce them to Yeti. I found this community the other day while trying to find out what other people had received as their "free surprise chick", and I decided to join because I'm sure I will have other chicken questions in the future.
