Hello everyone..Just wanted to say Hello to everyone..I have 5 hens got them the 24th of April and also got 8 chick's the 21st of April. All have been doing great hens were laying an average of 4 eggs a day. That is until a week ago.I moved their coop cause with all the rain we have been getting it was staying muddy. So I moved them to a shaded area and now the girls are only laying 1 or 2 eggs a day.Any suggestions?Do they have to have direct sunlight for them to lay?Any help would and will be appreciated..Thank you all and it was and is very nice to meet you

I know light helps to stimulate egg production..... could the amount of shade be affecting the laying?

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Any big changes to a hens routine, including moving the coop or run will upset the egg laying. They lay when they are comfortable in doing so or feel safe. So give them time to readjust. I would also put some fake eggs in the nest boxes to help assure them it is still safe to lay in the boxes. Hens like to lay where another hen has laid. Helps them feel safe.

Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Two Crows has given you some good advice. Welcome to BYC! So much great knowledge here. Learning Center is so helpful, as are the different forum topics. I follow the new posts to read and learn good stuff from the chicken whisperers. Hope your girls settle down, Good luck!

Welcome to BYC. Hope your gals will adjust soon. If you leave them out to free range, they will probably return to the old location. If so you have to lock them in the new spot(coop) for a couple days with food & water - to learn the new address is now home.
