Hi, my name is Regina.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am totally new to having chickens. The husband and I are planning to move within the next year, and buy a small piece of land with a house. I would love to have a small flock of chickens, a few ducks, and a garden to start. I have been watching a lot of homesteading YouTubers and want to be able to hit the ground running when we finally are able to find a new place/get started.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 0

(3) What breeds do you have? I would like to have breeds that will do well in our part of North Carolina (we will be settling near Asheville NC when we buy our place), but there are a few breeds that I think are so pretty that I want them all. :)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I want to have my own eggs when the chickens are old enough, chicken manure for my gardens, and just the general activity of chickens running around scratching, crowing, and clucking.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I knit, crochet, make soap, and garden kinda badly ( i am working on it).

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am married, the husband and I will be celebrating our 31st anniversary in August. We have two daughters. One who lives in Asheville, NC with her husband and my grand-puppies, and the other, who has been attending a local community college, will soon be off to get her Bachelor's degree at UNCA. We have one rescue kitty named Beatrice, who is my little buddy. I have a small soapmaking business. I make and sell handcrafted soap and other products.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D I found BYC while doing research on a particular breed of chicken just recently. I joined BYC because I have a lot to learn about Chickens and you all seem to know your stuff.

Hello, Regina, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Good luck finding your new home. Chickens will fit right in with your current lifestyle. You are going to love it.
I completely understand wanting more than one breed! I have a 26-chicken flock made up of 18 different breeds. And if the gods of broody hens are favoring her, I will have 4 little 1/2 Salmon Faverolles/1/2 "other" mixed breed chicks in a little less than 3 weeks.
