Y'all can just call me Gina though.
I grew up having chickens, for as long as I can remember. When I left home, it was a while before I could have them again, since I didn't live in the country anymore. I found out recently that my city allows them, so I built a coop and got me some chickens!
I have several chickens, but I'm not actually 100% sure how many I'm allowed to have because the ordinances aren't specific, they just aren't allowed to be a nuisance. My neighbors are pretty chill, and if I had any complaints I'd try to mitigate the situation, but for now, I just take proper care of them so they don't bother anyone.
I have Leghorns, Silkies, Cochins, Marans, Australorps, a Brahma, an Orpington, and a couple of RSLs. They're all surprisingly chill birds. I don't remember chickens being quite so friendly when I was young, but I think that's because we didn't handle them as much as I've handled mine.
My favorite part of having backyard birds is watching them interact and probably giving them the rare treat. Chickens hopping to grab something out of your hand is so amusing.
Art, writing, craft, building...I have ADHD so I pick up lots of hobbies and interests. I've stayed enamored of chickens my entire life, though.
Both my spouse and I are country transplants. I'm a little sad my daughter is growing up in the city, but on the plus side she's being exposed to a lot more culture and ideas. In addition to the chickens I have a dog (1/2 Great Pyrenees, 1/2 Anatolian Shepherd) and two cats (a muted calico and a tuxedo kitty)
I've run into these forums several times while researching various chicken related topics. I finally decided to join because I got irritated at not being able to join the conversation on various topics! XD
