Hello All –
Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? My name is Emily, and as of March 2022, I am new to owning chickens... I have MANY questions and very few resources nearby to learn or understand situations involving my chickens. I have read and searched on BackYard Chickens' forums previously when first getting my chicks, however, I recently had an awful experience with one of my hens and found out the hard way how few resources I have available to me and how unprepared I was for such things.
How many chickens do you have right now? What breeds do you have? We have 7 chickens currently – 1 Barred Rock Hen (approx. 5 months), 1 Brown Leghorn Hen (approx. 5 months), 1 Easter Egger Hen (approx. 5 months), 1 Rhode Island Red Hen (approx. 5 months), 1 Austra White / Mixed Hen (best guess, age is unknown), and 2 Silkies Hen and Rooster (approx. 3 months).
What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? As a new-to-chickens person, I've loved watching each of them grow and develop into their unique personalities, seeing them run around the yard, having the time of their lives! And of course... chicken snuggles with purrs are beyond satisfying.
