I'm a new member to this site but have used it for reference about 5 months now. Just re-entering the "farming" life. Although having 2 1/2 acres just inside Jefferson County is a lot different than growing up on over 200 acres. But at 63 years of age, 2 1/2 acres is about all I want. I'm surrounded by nature on three sides and a very good, agreeable neighbor on the other. (He waters my flock if he is out in his yard on a hot day and put up a heat lamp for my ducks when it got into the 40's one night.) A creek runs through my land, lots of shade and a good size barn-yard area, so, it's all good.

So I'll see you on here now and then. Maybe even see you at the Shephersville Swap some day.

Hi, Debbie, and :welcome! I'm in KY (north central), too.

It sounds like you have a nice setting for your birds (shade and a natural water source, nice) and a great neighbor!! Lucky you! :)

I dread the arrival of summer's heat and, worse, the oppressive humidity. I practically swiss-cheesed the chicken coop to ensure that it has sufficient ventilation, and added insulation to the ceiling because it has a high gambrel metal roof (I bought it when I got my first chickens and didn't know better  - now I build my own, much-better-suited-to-the-climate, coops).

I haven't been to the Shepherdsville swap - does it have good attendance?
