Hi! I wanted to introduce myself and I also have a question
We have had chickens for a little over a year now! Love, LOVE my girls! We started with 6, got another 6, added 3 guineas and 5 quail
I want to add 4 new chicks this spring. Sound familiar?!
I love my girls. They are a somewhat free ranged. We have New Hampshires and Easter Eggers. Who aren't really easter Eggers? Maybe they are, this is an area Im still learning. Of the 6 EE, 3 look more Rhode Island Red and lay brown eggs and 3 are more speckled looking and lay blue-ish/ green eggs. (TSC chicks)
We have a backyard coop, and I am able to offer them areas of our 1 acre yard, a bit at a time.
Right now I have my old root garden with snow fencing around it. When I am out I let them out in that area, and the girls are getting the soil ready for me to plant here in a couple months.
(Work smarter, not harder!)
**One question I have tried to find the answers for, we have a feral cat who has taken to peeing inside the coop! We use hemp for deep litter method, so I dont remove the bedding as often as some other beddings would require. I live in Ohio and we have been having some nice days. This morning when I opened the coop up, the smell was strong! I am going to go out and remove the bedding in the area when I am done typing, then replace with fresh. But, is cats peeing inside the coop okay for the health of my chickens and guineas? (The guineas roost eighth e chickens at night in the coop)
I look forward to learning more on this site, and meeting you all!
I have read some threads over the last few months, and felt it was time to finally join!
