I currently have a flock of 15 chickens who will be turning 3 in September
I have been raising chickens for about 5-6 years now. This is my second flock
When I got my first flock, I researched the "poop" out of chickens and decided to start out with RIR's, Orpingtons and Barred Rocks. I absolutely LOVED them! However, it came time to move and I ended up having to give them to a local farm where they have (hopefully) been living life to the fullest and are happy...Now we have moved back home to FL and we just couldn't resist getting more chickens. The house we bought came with a huge shed that we didn't need for anything. So guess what....YAY CHICKENS!!! This time I did even MORE research and decided to get a few more different breeds. I now have Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Partridge Rocks, Speckled Sussex and Austrolorpe's. Let me just tell you, the Austrolorpe's were a little weird at first because they look like mini vultures lol! But they are SUPER sweet and I love the noises they make when I collect the eggs from the boxes they are occupying. Also, the Speckled Sussex chickens are BEAUTIFUL! I am getting ready to get my third flock next year and am leaning towards an entire flock of the Sussex breed! Not many people in my area seem to have them and I am super excited to start introducing people to them! Anyways...Back to my story! My current flock occupies an entire shed (which is about 12'x20') and we have a huge enclosed run for them which is about (24'x32') with lots of room to roam and a pool to cool off in on these hot FL days
I like to think I have some extremely happy chickens
I love coming on BYC and researching all kinds of stuff, so I figured it was about time to become an "actual member" lol! So HELLO EVERYONE!!! SUPER happy to finally become an official BYC member and start meeting all you crazy chicken lovers!!!
