Hello all! I am very excited to be a member of this site as I have followed and used it as a resource for many months now!
I am a new/first time chicken momma. We got our first group of chickens (6) on April 5th of this year. We got our group of 3, which we call the juniors on April 29th and our last group of 6 (the babies) on May 5th. We have a total of 15 chickens. Our breeds include: 3 Easter Eggers, 1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, 1 Amberlink, 1 Buff Brahma, 1 Jersey Giant, 1 Speckled Sussex, 1 Dominique, 1 Barred Rock, and 5 Silkies. My favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens are the interaction, companionship during these isolating times, entertainment, watching them grow and their personalities develop, watching them interact with each other, the excitement of waiting for our first egg!, learning something new as these are my first chickens. My other hobbies include raising and keeping up with my 8 year old son, he is in every sport imaginable so he keeps me very busy. I work as a vocational rehabilitation counselor so I work to get individuals with disabilities gainfully employed in the community so they can be as independent as possible as have a sense of purpose in the world, which is so important for everyone. I also enjoy reading and gardening and being outside as much as I possibly can. We recently bought a home out in the country where we were able to get our chickens and we just finished our chicken shed! I found BYC by looking up plans for the roost inside. I have attached pictures of our finished chicken shed. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your wonderful chicken family community!
