from Georgia. It is nervewracking when you get babies.

Wait till they all go into their 1st coop. I was up and down all night worrying. But it is so worth it. Enjoy them.

Hi Terrihb, thanks for the reply. I so am worring. I was laying in bed last night telling my husband that I am so scared to put them outside. I'm worried that they won't like the dark. Winters are cold in MA and that worry's me too. I love them and want them to do well and be happy. I see you've been married a long time and have children. I've been married 31 years and have two sons and a grandson. I decided to have chickens as a hobby that my grandson and I can do together. Hope everything goes well. My coop comes next week. Will be awhile before I can put them out though. Have a nice Day.

Hello there and welcome! Don't be nervous, you'd be surprised how hardy chickens are! And you can find everything you need to know right here....With people to share your amusing chicken stories and pics with........

What kind of chicks do you have?

Take care,
Sharon from Ohio

Hello and welcome from a fellow newbie and MA resident. My chicks are going into their third week and I'm now finally able to sleep through the night without worrying about them.

I have a dozen chicks (well 11 now - I lost one over the weekend); 6 Buff Orps and 5 Leghorns. I don't plan on letting them outside for at least this week given that it's not supposed to get out of the 50's and I don't yet have a coop. Hubby and I are buying a coop kit next week and hope to finish it in time to move them out by early May weather permitting!

We can't POSSIBLY have another winter like this last one, right?

Hello everyone, Thank you for the warm welcome. It's nice to be able to chat with fellow chicken owners. I have alot to learn and it looks like I've picked the perfect site. You know I'm really not sure what kind of chicks I have. I was told they were pullets and should all be hens.I was told that some will lay colored eggs. Had I been more knowledgeable I would have made sure I knew exactly what I was getting. I have six chicks that look kinda like the markings of a chipmunk. Light brown to dark brown. I also have 6 chicks that are completely yellow. I wish I knew exactly what they are. I guess I will just have to wait till there older to know for sure. Whatever they are I do love them. I'm very excited because my new coop is being made right now. Should be done next week. Still to cold up here in MA though. Baby's will be in for awhile. Have a wonderful day all.
