(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm 67 years old and was raised with Chickens on the farm from the day I was born. My parents got away from the farm animals by the time I was 10. Next personal experience with chickens was when my daughter wanted one for 4-H. We got a Golden Lace Wyandot. She won 4th place at the Indiana State fair one year. We took her camping, swimming, and hiking. She rode a bicycle with us, and walked on a leash. We put her in a diaper and she ran around inside the house. She ate everything from mashed potatoes to ice cream. I'd buy her a box of fishing worms every now and then for a special treat.

We had 2 Frazzles, and 2 Silkies. But none like the first one ever compared.

Now, some 30 (plus) years later, we picked up 3 chicks (hens) we want to raise for egg layers. I have no idea what breed they are. We got them from a breeder in Southern Indiana.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

(3) What breeds do you have?

My wife says they are called, "Easter Egg Layers"

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

From past experience, watching them scamp around.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Avid camping. We currently have a Fifth Wheel camper. The chickens will go camping with us. So we are already working with them to adapt to the life style.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I retired January 2022 after 30 years working in Information Technology. The last 20 was spent working as a software tester. I also spent over 20 years in ministry, and 6 years in the military.

My wife is still working full time (from home), also in Information Technology, working as a software tester also (plus a whole lot more).

We travel with our camper and in the past we both worked from home. So traveling and working both go together.

We have 2 adult kids and 7 grand children. Our oldest son lives with us as does his son.

We currently have 2 Dachshunds and my son has a cat. Yes ... they all are VERY interested in the new chickens.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

Random chance. We had eggs and sausage for breakfast this morning. We had some scrambled eggs left over. I was wondering if the new chicks could eat eggs. A general Google Search led me to this forum.

FYI. The baby chicks absolutely love beef, pork chops, bacon, and noodles. Yes ... we're introducing them to everything. (we are not being excessive... very modest ... just an introduction). From past experience, the best eggs we had was when the "Golden" ate people food.
