Hello to all
(Finally able to login)
My family and I are new to the whole chicken thing. After we moved to our new home (FTH owner) and about a year of research, My husband and I made a homemade brooder, and prepared for our 25 chicks to arrive. They arrived 3/2/09. The day we had 10" of snow over night and lost our power for the first half of the day. (Thank goodness for our neighbors and the use of their wood stove)
We have 18 Partridge rocks, one mystry breed (I think its a Wyandotte). 6 roos and 13 hens (to the best of my knowledge)
I found BYC through the many searches I have done online.
I actually found BYC a while back, like January. I've tried to get into the forum before but have had much difficulty until, wa la, today. Blame it on dial-up, I do.
My Chicks are alsmost 7 wks & fully feathered. I want to move them to an outside house. Temps at night still get into the low 40's sometimes in mid 30's. Is it safe to put them in the houses? Do I need a heat source (lamp)? There are two different houses, 1 for the 13, and 1 for the 6.
Thanks
SAD
Mother & stepmother to 6(4, 16, 22, 24, 29), a very handsome 1 yr old grandson
5 dogs, 3 cats, 3 turkey, and now 19 chickens
