Hello,
I'm new to the group, hence the introduction. I live in nova Scotia, Canada and am getting some chicks. I used to have chickens as a kid but my chores were to feed and clean them. I didn't learn the science behind it. I'm getting australop and buff orpington, 6-8 in total. Looking for any advice! I was going to use a kiddie pool as my brooder box and have been looking at DIY feeders and caterers. Would love to find out how to make the one I've posted a pic of, or any similar until they are big enough for the coup.

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! You're smart to be planning ahead. The feeder looks like they used PVC pipe and a bucket. Not sure I can see what's going on with the waterer, but there are easy to install horizontal nipples available at your local farm supply store, or online, that can be put on a bucket. I use the feeders I can buy at the farm store for the most part, but if you can get all your chickens using those nipples for water, you'll be way ahead of the game!

Buff Orpingtons is a brilliant choice of chickens. They are my favorites!

I didn’t use the glue after the first time.
As for the water, there are two kinds of nipples, and a cup. The cups have two styles too. I’ve yet to use these, but I do know you start with a tiny hole, and make it bigger to prevent the plastic from melting a bigger hole.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Excellent choice of breeds! In my book, Orps are some of the best breeds you could keep! :D

Good luck building the feeder, you have been given some great help. Welcome to our community! :)
