Hello there! I'm Ross, I use they/them/theirs pronouns (if you don't know what that means, check out THIS link).

Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
So... yes and no. I had chickens as the family pet, a flock of nine hens and two roosters (we got a brood of 'accidental' chicks from a neighbor). They were Dutch/Belgian cross Bantams. Very sweet. So I remember a lot of knowledge, but I'm not sure what is new in the research!

How many chickens do you have right now?

We just got five little Ameraucanas, four weeks old today! No names yet, but they are starting to show clear personalities :)

What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

They're such darling little creatures- curious, feisty, warm, soft, and not afraid to go after food. I find a lot in common with them and myself. There's always the excitement of getting eggs, but I also really love the bonding ability that chickens do have.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Herb and vegetable gardening, watercolor painting, cooking, dance, and teaching.

Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I also own a bearded dragon (3-4 yrs old) named Pancake! She's a darling, though quite obstinate at times and definitely has an attitude. Favorite foods are arugula, collards, blueberries, summer squash, with a side order of roaches. Living in MA, USA.

Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

BYC comes up a lot in Google searches, and I recognized the name from when I first did initial research into chickens. I didn't have any experience with online forums or digital communities at the time, so I didn't make an account. I'm much more comfortable with it now, so I'm very excited to meet others in the community!
