Hello peoples! New guy from Tucson.

Hi all!
My wife and daughter and I are getting our first chicks next week and we're pretty excited about it. We're starting with 8, 4 Plymouth Barred Rocks and 4 Buff Orpingtons.
I'm building a 16'x10' pen with a 4'x6' coop inside. We have a lot of hawks, owls, coyotes and cats around so the pen will be completely enclosed.
I'll post up some pics when it's all ready, for now, I have a chick box and heat lamps on a table in the garage.

I've been lurking the site for a while now and I will join in the conversations from time to time with questions.

Ya can't go wrong with BRs and BOs - they're both friendly and docile breeds. Plus I love the way they look.

So, as well as getting into backyard chickens, I am also an avid homebrewer since '97. I plan on using the grain I brew with to supplement the chickens feed. 2 birds with one stone, if you will. First I brew some great beer, then feed the chickens with it.

We may eventually get more chickens. Tucson City ordinance allows for 24 hens, no roosters, in city limits. next thing you know, we'll be supplying half the street with eggs.
