So I actually joined this site back in 2017. My husband and I were living in a little apartment at the time with a perfect backyard for a few chickens... so I found this site, read everything I could, researched coops, breeds, got Town, neighbor and landlord permission.. and then we bought a house. Lol.

The past few years have been spent figuring out the homeowner ropes and establishing a productive garden. But my desire for a backyard flock never waned. I am thrilled to say we are picking up a coop next weekend! It's used but from a good builder in the area. There's still some work ahead.. I have to secure the run and give it a good paint job. Then... finally... we will be adding some chickens to our family :)

hello @Sarahs Hens ! welcome back to BYC :frow
make sure you thoroughly clean and disinfect that used coop!

Yes I plan to! Any advice on the best way to disinfect the wood on the inside? I read about painting the inside with 'whitewash' here:

Does anyone here do that? Or could i just give the inside a good soaking with peroxide? What about Clorox? If i let it air out for several days after the chemicals should break down and be safe right?
