Hi, my name is Brittany. I got chickens about 1 year ago. Started with only 3; a wellsummer, an olive egger and a prairie bluebell. It soon became apparent that we needed more hens (eggs) since we are a family of 4.
I live in Massachusetts and people have been going chicken crazy around here so it was hard to find chicks this spring.
I ended up with 2 brown leghorns and 2 buff orpington chicks. They are now almost 5 weeks old. Then we were able to get 4 Golden Comets almost 2 weeks ago.
We also borrowed an incubator from a friend and put 20 eggs in. 16 hatched but 2 died during hatching. The other 14 are doing well. We mostly have Easter Eggers and 4 Brahmas. We got a variety going on.
My grandparents have always had chickens and I knew I some day wanted some as well. My grandfathers favorite chickens are white leghorns, golden comets and Rhode Island reds. He likes the prolific egg layers haha.
I love looking at old threads on here, it’s been so helpful! So I decided to join the community
