Hello all!
I started raising chickens, primarily for meat and secondarily for eggs, last year. I started with 41- I jumped right into the deep end. Never had chickens before.
Last fall I brought in another 65, and I have about another 35 coming in this chick season.
I've focused on heritage breeds with ultimately the goal of trying them all, plus cross breeding and incubating, to find what table bird I like best, and then narrowing down my flock to focus on those specific breeds or crosses.
Currently I have at least one of all of the following:
Silver Grey Dorking
Barred Rock
Rhode Island Red
New Hampshire Red
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Australorp
Buff Rock
Freedom Ranger Color Yield
Kosher King
Sasso
American Bresse
Brahma
Jersey Giant
Delaware
Bielefelder
Speckled Sussex
Black Polish
I've got 4 kids and ultimately want to use my property to ultimately be able to eat meat that I raise or hunt exclusively.
I've learned a ton form this community over the past year and a half just via google search, glad to be a part of it now.
See you around the forums!
