I'm a fairly new (urban)backyard chicken keeper from South Cal. Married, 2 kids, tamed feral cat as a sidekick.

I have a mixed flock with bantams and standards. Silkies, Polish chickens, Sultan, Ameraucana, Easter eggers, Brahmas, and white Maran, Australorp, Rhode Island Red and Barred Rock.

I have also lop bunnies...or, I should say that my kids have those.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Hope you enjoy BYC as much as we do. You have an interesting & varied flock - nice choice of breeds.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! What a lovely mixed flock you have there. I have all polish barring one Amber hen. Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Hi, welcome to BYC!

If you'd like to 'meet' other members in your part of the country, you can find them here:

You have some really colorful birds! I've always liked the looks of the Sultans but never had any...how do you find their temperament?

Thanks for joining us, make yourself at home!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Thank you so much, I feel warmly welcomed.

:)

About my Sultan... well, it's hard to tell, since she is just a couple weeks old now, and was a kind of special case from the start on. She nearly died 3 days old after delivery, because she was too exhausted to drink and eat. I had to handfed and nurse her 24/7 couple days.

She seems to be nice and gentle bird, pretty much like silkies, but maybe a bit more calm?

You're welcome. Your Sultan is beautiful. Thanks for posting the pic.)

@LeEgg thank you for the picture of your Sultan! What a pretty girl, I'm glad you were able to get her off to a good start. I've found with the birds that need special attention, they are the most people-friendly ones we have. Good luck to you with all your birds, I look forward to seeing you on the boards (and seeing more pictures, lol)!
