I have searched threads here for probably over a year now and finally decided to join in. I have 5 mixed breed hens and rooster (Brooster), 4 Ameraucana hens and rooster (Roo Roo), a pair of guineas and a pair of Tolouse geese. I have incubated, brooded and sold a few batches of guinea keets and mixed breed chicks the last couple months. 10 Ameraucana chicks hatched last weekend and more mixed breed due in a week. My profile pic is of my mixed breed girl Pearl. We started off a couple years ago with Brooster and 4 girls. We kept Pearl out of a batch of chicks I incubated a year ago. We kept her seperated from the others until about a month ago because the older hens pick on her. We needed the space for keets so put Pearl in with Brooster and his girls and they still pick on her and she seems depressed in there. One day while they were out in the yard, Pearl decided to take up residence on the tractor. It has been several days and she pretty much stays on or around the tractor which is under a part of the horse shelter. She seems happy there so hopefully no preditors will come by and find her. She actually got up there and stayed when my husband cranked it up to go move hay last night.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Nice pics! Pearl sure seems to be one big adventurer. I love how she likes to be in the tractor! My grandparents used to have chickens and big tractors but the birds never would hop into one of the big machines. LOL

I think Pearl is geared to be a TV star. Does she sleep near the horses? I would think they would give some measure of protection from predators. Welcome to BYC.
