Hi, my name is Katy and I have chickens. Wait, wrong group... lol. I was raised around chickens so the thought of having chickens is not new to me, this is just the first time I am responsible for their survival. At Easter my father in law thought it was a good idea to get my 5 year old 2 chicks, not asking me or even thinking they would grow into chickens. They honestly thought we would get rid of them to the local petting farm. After 2 seconds, my son fell in love, already named them (Peep and Pecker) by the time I got to them and well, what was a mom to do? Actually it was dear husband that built the coop. Now 16 weeks later we are early awaiting eggs, from what I think are chickens. Pecker is an Americauna and "her" comb is big and red but she attacks my feet every time I walk in the coop. After I pick her up she calms down so maybe she is just an attention wh*re. The other, Peep, is just as skittish as ever but has no real comb to speak of. She is bigger than the other even though she hatched within a day or two of the other and actually crowed (sort of) when I held the other. They are fun, interesting, and worry me to death that they might die someday (son would be crushed). It's fun to watch them chase each other and greet me whenever I go in the back yard with their "broaakkk". I'll post pics at some point, the photos I have now are not the greatest and a few weeks old. I've been here a few times before reading expert advice so it's high time I've joined and introduced myself.
