Hi I'm new. My family just got 4 Rhode Island Red and 4 Columbian Rock day old chicks on August 5/15. We live in Novar Ontario. Looking for any and all advice for raising chicks in the north. We got them for our kids and for fresh eggs.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congratulations on your new chicks :celebrate Have you stopped by the learning centre? Lots of super articles on raising chicks. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
You can drop by the where am I where are you section of the forum for your state thread. I'm sure you will have some chicken neighbours who will be able to help you in raising them in the north.

Yorkshire Coop has given you some good links, hope you enjoy checking them out. Congratulations on your new flock.

Thanks for joining us!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on the links that Yorkshire coop has provided you with. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center. There is loads of useful information there. The two breeds you have chosen are both very cold hardy when fully feathered. Just make sure that their coop is draft free, dry, and well ventilated to prevent moisture from building up in it. Feathers are wonderful insulators and moisture is a much greater danger than cold. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.

Welcome to the BYC flock. I think you'll be interested in subscribing to "Canadians check-in here-." a great thread on BYC, that can help your with climates issues etc. Maybe you'll even find some chicken folks close enough to be friends with.
