hello

Welcome to BYC. If you post photos we would be glad to offer comments. You might even want to check out the Coops section - it has all sizes and shapes. Plus many styles like chicken tractors which you can move around your yard.

Nice coop.

Here are a few thoughts:
1. Not sure how big your coop is, but the rule of thumb for chickens is 4 square feet per bird (unless you are getting bantams). If you plan on having 10 birds, you would need at least 40 square feet inside the coop.
2. Your hens are going to want to sit up on the top of their nesting boxes because that is the highest point in the coop. This will result on lots of poop on top and INSIDE of the nesting boxes. There is nothing worse than poop covered eggs! I would suggest raising the height of your roosting poles so they are above the nesting boxes to encourage them to use the roosts more.
3. Ventilation in a coop is VERY important. I think they recommend about 1 square foot of vent space per bird. Is there anyway you can add more ventilation without causing a draft on the birds? Vent openings should be covered with hardware cloth to keep out predators.
4. Love the drop down features for cleaning out the coop and accessing the birds.
5. I also like that it is elevated off the ground.

x2 on trailrider330's comments. Also, the 4 sq. feet per bird does not include space taken up by nesting boxes and any waterer or feeders you may put in there. The more space the chickens have in a coop, the happier they'll be. I see you're in Ontario so guess the winters can get pretty cold...if the chickens have to be kept inside during the worst days, they'll appreciate extra room. The roosting bars need to be wider so the chickens can comfortably walk on them and sit on their feet when they roost. I like the red color you've painted it.

Thanks for joining us!
