Hello everyone,my name is Scott and I live in Ohio. I have just finished my coop and contemplating my run. Want to build a real nice place for my girls. Any suggestions on info about run construction? ???

Hi Scott,

Bigger is always better! The "recommended" size is 10 sq. feet per bird (if you have large dual-purpose birds) but if you have feeders, waterers, etc. in there, that takes space. And if you keep your birds confined say during bad weather or don't free range at all, they'll appreciate more room.

I'm very thankful our covered run is tall enough to stand up in. It would be a pain to have to squat down or bend over to clean it (or to chase down chickens).

And a cover over the top is important...that will safeguard from overhead predators and give more shelter from rain/snow. It also provides some shade for the summer months.

Thanks for joining us and good luck with your build!

Almost forgot...don't forget to make it so nothing can dig under it.

you may want to check out the coops section - often they will show the type run they are using as well.
