Hi there, I'm new to BYC. I actually don't own any chickens yet, but once I move to CA I'll be raising some chicks. I've never done it before, but I've been researching loads of things on how to care for poultry. I've always wanted to have some, so this is like a dream come true! I plan on adopting some Buff Orphingtons as my first chickens, as I've heard they're very mellow. I plan on getting 4-6 hens, and I don't know what kind of coop I'll have. That's actually my biggest dilemma right now... Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this! I look forward to going on this forum often! =)

Your state thread is worth joining as you will get to know other BYC members in your area (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread). In fact, the search box should become your best friend

Lastly but by no means least, the members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.
