Hello and thanks for allowing me on this site so far been the best source of information on chickens!

(1) My family and I are new to chickens, we will be getting our mini flock on July 15th. We first fell in love with them, especially my oldest daughter, when we vised my Uncle who had a neighbor with them in her backyard. I was surprised how friendly they were and loved the way they walked!

(2) We will have 4 soon!

(3) We have our eyes on Australorp, Buckeye and Polish Crested. But we are really looking for chickens that my daughters like and can handle the winters up here in Northeastern Ohio.

(4) I found out about backyard chickens from Google!

(5) As for hobbies I like gardening, can not wait to use the chicken manure after what I read here, and also like building. I found a awesome coop design on here I am in the process of building it is the Trictle's Chicken Coop With Plans.

(6) My family consists of my lovely wife and 2 daughters. My oldest daughter is getting old enough to help out with a pet so we thought it would be a good time to get a pet she could call her own.

:welcomeI have a baby white polish, and 27 other chickens,my Japanese bantam's comb froze last winter, they are not a good cold-weather breed. My Easter eggers seem to do well in cool weather. This is a picture of Blondie, one of my Easter eggers!

You may consider the Chanticleer breed that originated in Canada to survive harsh
winters. They have flat combs that are not prone to frostbite.
