Hi! So I'm new to BYC, and chickens in general. I first got interested in chickens when my neighbor's chickens got out and over the fence into our yard. I didn't know if they had food or water, considering my neighbors didn't seem to care about their animals, so I set out some water and gave them some scratch twice a day. I loved bonding with those 5 chickens. So we started to build a chicken coop with getting our own chicks in mind. In the end, the neighbors locked their chickens back up and I got my own cute little fuzz balls! I got my flock of 8 chickens February 24, 2017 and I fell in LOVE with them! Our town's Orschelns and Tractor Supply didn't have the breed of pullets we wanted, so we drove to a different town to get them, and I'm glad we did! I got 4 Buff Orpingtons and 4 Road Island Reds. All were supposed to be pullets, but 2 ended up being Cockerels. As of right now they are about 19 weeks! They grow up so fast, Lol. My 2 roo's are both Buffs, and I'm hoping they continue to get along okay so I don't have to give one up! At about 17 weeks, 2 hens started laying eggs (at about the same time too. Their eggs were so tiny!) but that is all so far. I think my favorite little buff hen is getting ready to lay though. Her name is Maude, named after my great grandma, whom I've never met since I was born after her passing, but I hear she was such a sweet person. The name is fitting because this hen is also so sweet! My rooster's names are Buck Worthington (funny story, my mom thought someone on the phone said "Buck Worthington" instead of Buff Orpington) and my big guy is name Biggie. My other buff hen is named E.B, short for Eyeball because she was sitting on my lap and pecked my eye... Then there is Hawkeye. If she sees a bug, that bug will be gone in 0.01 seconds. The other hens don't have names yet, but I'm working on it! I hope to get some ducks and to expand my flock in the future!

Wow I wrote a book:eek:. Sorry about that, haha! Thanks for reading, if you made it all the way through:lau

Really enjoyed your intro especially the part about how your rooster Buck got his name.
My mom had hearing problems and got things wrong lots of times. We thought it was funny, she did not.

Welcome to BYC! :frow
