Thanks for adding me to the group. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought that I would have chickens, having been terrorised by my grandmothers roosters as a child, but there you go and here I am!
Have had chickens for about 18 months now, only because the first one adopted us. Having never seen a Minorca before, we thought it was a rooster that had escaped from a fox or dog as it didn't have a tail, had lots of scratches on its back. So we called it George. After it stayed for a month and showed no signs of leaving (sleeping on the front steps), we built a pen and, a couple of months later, got some friends for her. The first egg after a month or so let on it was a she. She still answers to George.
Now we have 4 pens, 3 roosters (Minorca and 2 Plymouth Rocks), 1 Australorp cross, 2 Minorca hens and 5 Plymouth hens. My husband got very enthusiastic and we did get up to 40 at one point!

Thanks to you all. I was actually looking up washing feathers for craft and found some interesting ideas, and although I've perused this site many times had never joined.
TBH, I'm a bit scared of our Plymouth roosters but not so much the Minorca. The biggest rooster (and they're big) put his wing down and tried to round me up. I know that's their mating dance, but their father never did it to me and now I'm a bit nervy when they're out! I know it's a case of "harden up princess", but my guts doesn't agree.
