I have a small flock of ladies and 1 gent. 4 are americauna 1 giant blue. Top dog is a blue splash maran. I stared 3-4 years ago with the americaunas, 2 buff orpington and 2 black

australorp. 2 years ago I got 3 blues from a breeder, 3 welsumers, and 4 amerucaunas. All of the chicks from the 2nd batch died from mareck except for the blue rooster. In addition my 2 orpingtons and australorps also died. All died at different stages. Some were sudden, some had paralysis, but all within 1sr 5-16 weeks after I received the 2nd batch.
I was extremely upsetting both when the 1st 1-2 died and having to put the others to rest after they got sick. It's been2 years now the giant blue is healthy. And sweet as ever (very consistent layer) Same for the americanas. I cant say top dog is sweet but he remains healthy. I have not added any new additions for 2 yrs as i do not want to suffer the losses .again. even though the area & coop have been steamed and disinfected multiple times. This year I am building new housing and am raising a few pekin ducklings. I am retired and enjoy gardening and camping with my dogs. CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR SPRING.

HI Bailey.

HI Bailey.
:welcomeGlad you are here!

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us. So sorry that you had those losses. Marecks is a very bad thing. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. I recommend at least your state as we have a worldwide membership and that's the lowest level most can figure out. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
