My Coop
Hi everyone!

I've finally made my way back to BYC after many years of not having chickens!

I used to keep chickens when I was in high school and loved them dearly, but had to go away for college and had to sell my entire flock :( I was so sad! But, finally I am graduated and couldn't live without chickens any longer!! I bought five new birds about a month ago and couldn't be happier to be back with a flock!

I used to be a member of BYC under an old account (that I can't remember which email or password I used) so I made a new account to be a part of the awesome chicken community once again. Seriously, there aren't many people I get along with better than my fellow chicken keepers!

On July 13th, I bought four hens and a rooster (full grown) from a local seller. It was so much fun picking them out and starting my flock again! I tried to choose breeds I hadn't previously kept! I got one silver laced Wyandotte (the big bossy lady), an ISA Brown (which I've had before, but are one of my fave breeds!), a black copper Maran (for those beautiful eggs!), and a "Sapphire" (which I haven't heard of, but she was too beautiful not to bring home!), and also a little bantam rooster who I'm not sure of the breed. They all live in my 3X4 coop which is heavily insulated for our cold Minnesota winters! I'm used to having a large flock (30+) and I had a big coop before too, so this will be interesting to see what needs these birds will have to keep warm. So far it's been much easier cleaning up after the birds when there is only 5! :D

I'm hoping in the spring to add some chicks in the second coop I'm getting! :)

As far as my other hobbies, I am currently a 4th grade teacher (my first year) and I love to read anything and everything (especially if it's about farming! ;) ) We also have two cats, a community tank of fish/snails, and an aquarium with some hermit crabs.

My goal is to one day be completely self-sufficient and have my own unique farm filled with delicious foods and the inevitable quirky animals that come along with it!

Thanks for reading! I'm excited to meet you all and maybe recognize some people from before as well!

Hello and welcome back to BYC! :frow Glad you re-joined.
@CarpCharacin can help you merge your new and old accounts.
Congratulations on your new flock! They are lovely. Looks like the ISA Brown was someone's favorite gal.

Unfortunately, yes! :( She is starting to grow back her feathers now thankfully!

Welcome back to BYC and back to keeping chickens. Check the legs on your birds. The pictures are not definitive, but it almost looks as if that pretty little rooster and the Maran MAY have scaley leg mites. Good luck with and enjoy your flock.

Thank you! It's just the photos, their legs are normal in person! :D
