(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am a little old at the chicken game. It took me a bit to figure out how to dog proof chickens and still have them free range.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 5 hens and 1 killer roo plus 2 hatchlings, recently added.... I also have 2 female ducks and 1 male duck

(3) What breeds do you have? My roo is an Americana, then there is a mixture of Australorp, White ( Not leghorn), and a couple of RhodeIsland Reds. I got them from Tractor Supply. My ducks are the White variety. Not sure if they have a proper name.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I like hearing the rooster crow everytime he sees me.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Geneaology (I can't spell it but I can do it), Puzzles and Gardening

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am married, I have 9 dogs, several mousers and I want even more.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D I googled because I was trying to find out the behavior of my ducks.

Actually 6ft is not enough. We made ours 6 foot high and even put a fence top on it. That way the chickens do not fly out and be fair game along with the dogs and other birds of prey cannot get to them either. Well the dogs happened because our husky mix, God love her, wanted puppies. That's how we wound up with that many dogs, but 2 are adoptees. They all try and get along with each other. :)

Hello, Barbara, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Hot wires strung at the right levels around the run will keep climbers off the fence.
You are not joking!! They scaled the wooden fence we put up in 1 hop. It is crazy!! They are well behaved besides that. Those ice blue eyes will just melt your heart.

We are trying the hot wire next upper and lower levels. Along with climbing they also have the art of digging.
