Hi Everyone
I've been reading this website for years, but was waiting to move house to get my ducks, but my sale kept falling through and taking ages longer than it should have.
I had an Aylesbury duck when I was a child, and loved him, and have been waiting years and years for the 'right moment' to have ducks again, but wanted to wait until I finally moved to the countryside, so have contented myself with reading everyone else's adventures on this website and elsewhere.
I live in the UK, and I finally got a good and serious offer on my house in March, and on the exact same day we went into Lockdown. ;(
So a few weeks later, having had my incubator and brooder waiting in their boxes unused for over a decade, I order three Indian Runner duck eggs from Wales, and all three hatched into beautiful ducklings 30 days later. It was my first attempt at incubating eggs, so I was thrilled.
I love nature, animals, D.I.Y. growing my own food and baking and I also have three Chinese Crested dogs and a rescue sparrow.
I'm currently in the process of attempting to move 200 miles away to a cottage with some land, so I can do even more of the things I love.
I found this website looking for information on chickens originally, because I wanted to get chickens first, and later ducks, but when my house sale fell through, I realised ducks would be better, due to the fact that with ducks I would not have the potential cockerel issue, as I currently live in a terraced cottage and have decidedly nightmarish neighbours who are a little too close for comfort currently.
Whilst looking for something in my emails, and reading this website, I suddenly realised that I'd actually bought my incubator, brooder, food (which I sold on ebay to someone else just after buying it) and everything else, intending to do all this, over a decade ago, when I thought it had been only a couple of years, and realised I could sit here and another decade could pass by and I'd be sitting here still reading other people's stories, and I'd still not have done any of it myself.
So somewhat terrified, I placed the order for my eggs, and now have three new members of the family.
