(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I'm new to chickens!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We don't have any yet but this spring we plan to get a pretty good sized flock.
(3) What breeds do you have? We want to find a breed that will be better equipped to survive the extremely cold winters we have in northeastern Montana.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? We will love to have fresh eggs everyday and seeing them running around the yard being happy and eating bugs!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, canning, baking, crocheting, reading, puzzles.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I've been married for almost 24 years. I have 4 kids living at home still. We have a very old lab mix named Star and 2 cats who despise each other; Milo and Fia. I have worked as an aide in an elementary school for the past 7 years. We recently were blessed with an opportunity to move to the country and instead of doing the long commute, I quit my job to stay at home and be a house wife and stay at home mom again for awhile! We've always wanted to have chickens and farm fresh eggs and we're excited for spring to come so we can get started! If everything goes well with the chickens this year, we might try goats next year!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was searching for chicken coop ideas and came across Back Yard Chickens. I don't usually post on anything online but figured I should get over that for the sake of our future chickens! I don't have much experience and living in such a cold climate with a lot of predators around, I'm probably going to need a lot of advice, so here I am!
